Today they are both kept busy running a host of activities over a 40ha fun park, and employing four staff over the summer period. Stalking the ‘enemy’ and dodging paintballs through the trees is still the main drawcard for many visitors, and paintball has become popular with businesses and school groups as the perfect let-off-steam, team-building exercise. Laser Tag now offers a less messy alternative, while keeping up the excitement levels. The Argo Ride is also considered a “must-do” and tourists, especially overseas visitors, love the trip through an exquisite piece of New Zealand native bush, in a landscape crowned atop the hill by spectacular sea views. For those seeking extra thrills, the Argo 8-wheeled vehicle is capable of some mean 360 degree donuts. Eric and Sandy have created a park that offers activities, not just for one or two people, but for family groups and celebrations that include the very young and the young-at-heart. Archery and kids quads are now firm favourites and there are playground areas, barbecue/picnic spaces and a water hole to swim and cool off. Visitors who come for an hour often stay for the day. Passionate about Mercury Bay, understanding the need and seeing the potential for school groups, Sandy instigated the “School Camp Sorted - Welcome to Mercury Bay” brochure. School groups from far and wide are now choosing to come to the Bay and put Combat Zone on the agenda for their annual camps, along with many other local activities. ESSENTIAL ACTIVITY: The Argo Ride is considered a “must-do” and tourists love the trip at Combat Zone. TO THE POINT: Archery is now a firm favourite with visitors to Combat Zone. So much more than just paintball Situated in a rural riverside setting just a few kilometres south of Whitianga, Combat Zone Paintball and Fun Park provides fun and adventure alternatives for all the family.
