Judging / Prize Giving will be on Saturday 12 January – 2.00pm Steeped in significant New Zealand history, and blessed with magical ocean and mountain backdrops, it is not surprising that Mercury Bay has become a ‘must do’ for domestic and overseas visitors alike. In the centre of Whitianga township, multiple bright and cheerful signboards beckon more than 100,000 visitors into the i-SITE annually. It is the one-stop visitor information hub of the area. One glance at the wide range of brochures and touch-screen information, and visitors soon realise there is a lot more to see and do in the area than just the world-famous attractions of Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove. The i-SITE team, as bright and cheerful as their signboards, can answer the most curly questions. They help with advice on everything from accommodation, restaurants, sightseeing tours, fishing charters, horse trekking to ... you name it. The staff are the local experts - they are a collective mine of insider information that doesn’t appear in any guide book. They know the best times to dig a personal spa at Hot Water Beach, and how to find the mysterious and luxurious hideaway, The Lost Spring Spa. This year Mercury Bay Business Association is spearheading an initiative to further enhance family holidays in the Bay, by putting together a programme of low-cost, interactive fun for everyone. The Mercury Bay Summer Fun programme runs in and around the Bay over the holiday period. Events this year will include a Kids Art Canvas Competition at Whiti Farm Park from December 18 to January 12; the Richardsons Real Estate Scavenger Hunt around town on December 29; the Dive Zone Family Sports Day at Buffalo Beach on December 30 and the Mercury Bay Holiday Park Sand Sculpture Competition on January 3. There really is “something for everyone” in the Bay, and the Whitianga i-SITE is the first place to look. HARD TO MISS: Whitianga i-SITE is the place to go to find information about what’s on and where to go. KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF: Whitianga i-SITE manager Karen Mahwinney and Angela Patrick review a new brochure. Whitianga - the hub of Mercury Bay Whitianga has been welcoming visitors since the first vessels arrived on our shores.
