Thanks to some enthusiastic locals, who formed a Trust, the house has been rescued and is starting to resemble the gracious home it once was. It is an important part of the district’s pioneer heritage. The Trust is indebted to Adela’s diary that was published into a book “My Simple Life in New Zealand” as she documented detailed valuable records of the house she and Hugh built, as well as the gardens she established. The book also gives a fascinating glimpse into the life of early pioneers. Summer Events and Festivities Antique and Art Roadshow - Sunday March 17 10am-4pm. Several professional assessors will value items for $3 per item. $5 gate charge. Children under 12 no charge. Tours of Homestead available. Dress up in vintage clothing and be photographed by a professional photographer. Devonshire Teas available. Artists are invited to come and exhibit and sell their wares. $10 per Exhibitor includes gate charge. There will be gazeboes available to display art undercover. The Homestead is open on every Sunday during January and February and the first Sunday of each other month through the year $5 donation entry.
