While you have a cold and you're
congested then avoid mucus forming foods
such as chocolate and dairy products.
It goes without saying that smoking and
alcohol, sugar- lled foods as well as foods
high in saturated fats only deplete the

of nutrient dense fresh fruit and fresh
vegetables; also include brown rice paired
with sh, chicken or pulses.
Cut down on co ee, tea and zzy drinks
especially energy drinks, as these can
dehydrate you further.
Instead drink plenty of water and warm
herbal teas. Or make your own lemon and
ginger tea by adding a 3cm thinly sliced
piece of ginger, allow to stand in boiled
water for 10 minutes. Add the juice from one
lemon and sip away. Drink throughout the
If you have one of those irritating coughs,
instead of reaching for a sugar-fuelled
cough syrup try an active Manuka honey,
which has anti-bacterial and anti-viral
properties. Slowly suck on a teaspoon and
allow it to coat your throat too if it's sore.
Olive leaf extract is de nitely one natural
medicine you will want in your cupboard
over winter. It is e ective against bacteria,
viruses, fungi and parasites.
So you may want to pop to your local
health store to pick some up and start

Zinc is also important for a healthy
